Have you ever been described as a worrier, worry wart or anything else associated with being a worrier?
I have.
All my life I have been known as a worrier. I would overthink something so much I would lose sleep or it would take over all of my thoughts and therefore, wouldn't enjoy being in the moment.
To help me stop worrying (or worry less) my family tried to comfort me with "worrying is pointless, it doesn't solve anything." And I agree...to a certain extent.
But now I am older, I have learnt to accept and control (to a degree) my worrying and take comfort in believing "What will be, will be." What this means to me is that there is only so much preparation or research we can do to achieve what we want, anything else is out of our control.
For example, I am currently in Australia and before I finally found a place to live (Bondi and I absolutely love it) I was living in a hostel where the internet wasn't ideal. Therefore, I would wake up, get ready, head to an internet café and be there all day searching for jobs and somewhere decent to live for a reasonable price.
With my savings running low, finding a job and somewhere reasonable to live was a real worry!
But then I realised, I can only be as proactive as I can be within the day. I can get up early, apply for numerous jobs but anything else is out of my control. I can't force someone to give me a job, I can only be as proactive as possible within that day.
Due to this realisation I have started to believe in something else...'focus on what you can achieve that day'. Because with this, you can control your next steps to getting what you want. As long as you're putting in the steps required for what you want, you're doing the right thing! Anything else is out of your control.
So what I am trying to say is, yes it is ok to worry, because it shows you care and let's face it, we're human! But don't let it overwhelm or control you. Otherwise, it starts affecting other areas of your life.
So don't be afraid to feel the worry, just make sure you think to yourself 'what can I do to help myself today' and by doing this, you're closer to controlling the worry.
I find this helps with my worrying anyway.
